- We had two Home Run Hero chips used on the day, each with a vastly different outcome.
- Beginning with the bad news, Colin saw CJ Cron go 0-for-8 with 5 strikeouts in Colorado's doubleheader with Detroit. Not getting a ball out of the infield when the expectations are to get multiple out of the park stings.
- However, Colin wasn't alone with blanks coming from the Rockies delegation. Kris Bryant (Al & Lenny) and Elias Diaz (Buddy) also fell hitless in their twin bill split with the Tigers.
- It wasn't all doom and gloom Pick One-wise for the Rox though as Scott got a hit in each leg of the doubleheader from Connor Joe. The one in Colorado's win left the yard to boost him to a tie for the daily silver medal with five total bases.
- That tie was with Matt and Nate's selection Spencer Torkelson. The former #1 overall pick showed out in Detroit's 13 run game one with a single and a homer before having a much quieter blank in the night half.
- Robbie Grossman got three hits for Joseph but it just so happens they all ended up singles. Nevertheless, those three base knocks were good enough to keep him in second place overall.
- We'll get to the second person to duck the doubleheader shortly, but the first one, Ryan, wasn't feeling boisterous about Rowdy Tellez not pulling him out of the teens with a blank against Philadelphia. (That sounded better in my head, oh well.)
- Bare with me on this but there is a lot to unpack with Pavli's top score via Byron Buxton. The enigmatic Twins outfielder triggered the first successful Home Run Hero usage of the season with his fourth inning dinger off Vince Velasquez. Throwing in two singles and a double for good measure, Buxton set the new season standard to date with a score of 12. But it should also be said that not only did Pavli net the first Home Run Hero, but he was also the first person to take advantage of the Break Glass List. We all have lives and there is no expectation for this to take any sort of precedent in your day-to-day. So putting yourself together a little safety net can't hurt at all and hell it may just pay dividends like it did today.
- After that "bullet point", let it be known that rumors of Mike Trout's demise have been greatly exaggerated. Had the HRH chip not been used, Trout's 9 total bases would have been the optimal output.
