ROBERT ALLEN- 251.2 TOTAL SCORE DAILY SELECTIONS: Memphis Depay, NED (6.7) / Boulaye Dia, SEN (6.2) / Timothy Weah, USA (6.5) / Kieffer Moore, WAL (6.7) It was the closest thing we'll see to a chase day in the World Cup Pick One Challenge as the two top scorers entering Group A & B's final day were the worst performers by far. But unlike Trevor who we won't see in this recap for a while, Robert was able to maintain his top spot despite his struggles. Memphis Depay's shot chart read like a guy playing darts after his eleventh beer. Boulaye Dia couldn't replicate his production from the Qatar game but won't care because his nation advanced against all odds. Weah cruelly had his goal ruled off for offsides by his kneecap which most certainly would have given him a boost. Moore was the best of a bad bunch up front for Wales who collectively looked ready to go home.
SCOTT SERVIDIO- 250.3 TOTAL SCORE DAILY SELECTIONS: Cody Gakpo, NED (7.7) / Enner Valencia, ECU (6.3) / Christian Pulisic, USA (7.6) / Jude Bellingham, ENG (7.2) Pulling himself within less than a ratings point of the lead was Scott with an every other scoring chart. Cody Gakpo made it three goals in three games for the Netherlands while Christian Pulisic took himself out to put the United States through to face the Dutch in the Round of 16. Ecuador went off script as somebody other than Enner Valencia scored and sadly it was the national hero's poor header that put the ball on Kalidou Koulibaly's foot for Senegal's winner. England's worst rated player was level with Wales' best so Jude Bellingham didn't have a high bar to clear.
MARTIN DUNNING- 249.1 TOTAL SCORE DAILY SELECTIONS: Davy Klaassen, NED (7.1) / Ismail Jakobs, SEN (6.7) / Tyler Adams, USA (7.1) / Phil Foden, ENG (7.3) There was no cheating off his classmates for Martin on this day. The only person to make four unique selections went from third to fifth in the standings. Davy Klaassen continued to justify his role as Netherlands' #10 with another assist against Qatar. Jakobs got off eight crosses against Ecuador but his inaccuracy with those were nullified by his tireless defensive work. Defensive work is also what got Tyler Adams over 7.0 despite a yellow card. Martin made the most of Phil Foden actually seeing the field against Wales and was rewarded with his only goal of the day.
LENNY MALAGRINO- 248.8 TOTAL SCORE DAILY SELECTIONS: Cody Gakpo, NED (7.7) / Boulaye Dia, SEN (6.2) / Timothy Weah, USA (6.5) / Harry Kane, ENG (7.5) The bread was still good but the meat was spoiled in Lenny's World Cup sandwich for the day. As mentioned before, Cody Gakpo's dream group stage concluded as it began. Harry Kane finally found his footing against Wales even though he was only able to create a goal rather than score one. Dia and Weah's struggles in their respective games kept Lenny from getting on to the overall medal stand.
TREVOR UTLEY- 248.7 TOTAL SCORE DAILY SELECTIONS: Virgil van Dijk, NED (7.5) / Enner Valencia, ECU (6.3) / Timothy Weah, USA (6.5) / Gareth Bale, WAL (6.3) Things started off well enough for Trevor with an expected clean sheet from Virgil van Dijk against Qatar. Valencia's inability to keep his scoring streak alive though set off a string of sad dominoes for the remainder of the day. Weah and his ruled out goal stung even more when you saw concurrently Wales just throw up their hands and collectively deciding to no longer give a shit by subbing off their only goal scorer of the tournament, and second picked out player of the World Cup, Gareth Bale at halftime.
ANDREW SANFORD- 247.8 TOTAL SCORE DAILY SELECTIONS: Almoez Ali, QAT (6.2) / Ismaila Sarr, SEN (7.4) / Christian Pulisic, USA (7.6) / Harry Kane, ENG (7.5) The opposite of Trevor's day was Andrew's. It looked like it was business as usual for him this tournament with an invisible outing from Qatar's Almoez Ali in the opener before Ismaila Sarr imposed his will to earn and score a penalty and eventually get Senegal through to the Round of 16. Pulisic's nobility got Andrew his second-highest score of the World Cup. His Spurs boy Harry Kane brought an appropriate close to a first day of three 7.0+ rated selections.
