- The four sides in play today had a high standard to reach to match the day prior's goal fest and while they didn't put 14 plus penalties in the back of the auld onion bag, they produced some intriguing contests.
- Germany continued their high peak, low trough tournament with a showing to forget against England's Three Lions with missed chances, poor defense, and a general malaise of a club that knows their manager was out as soon as they were. At least Scott can take comfort in knowing he picked the lone player with a pulse for 90 minutes in the 7.3 rated Kai Havertz. It is even more relieving knowing that score put him into second place after Trevor's low score of the day from the invisible Robin Gosens.
- And many of you will look at that and scratch your head as to how Havertz, a player that didn't even register a shot on target, out-rated Raheem Sterling, Matt's pick who scored, and Harry Kane, who also scored, on England's side. Look at Bukayo Saka's rating without a goal to his credit and that should give you an idea of how toothless the English attack was before Luke Shaw's through ball to Sterling opened the floodgates on Die Mannschaft.
- On the flip side, England's defense was marvelous anchored by Andrew's selection Harry Maguire. Even with a yellow card, the Manchester United center half netted a 7.7 completing 88% of his passes and winning 10 of 12 duels on ground and in the air.
- In the first knockout stage finale, Sweden saw both an attacker and defender garner selection while Ukraine remained the low man on the Round of 16 participant usage totem pole (that was a lot to jam in there).
- Despite the Swedes bowing out, Greg rebounded nicely with his first 8.0+ performance in 12 days via Emil Forsberg. The attacking midfielder scored the match's opener and played the full 120+ minutes. Only a yellow card kept him from being an even higher scorer.
- Though still retaining his top place on the leaderboard, Mike will probably want to forget this match where the main thing he can say about Victor Lindelof is that at least he wasn't sent off or subbed off. Pretty low bar to set, but it somehow didn't scrape the Gosens of the barrel.
