- The group stages have come to an end with a quartet of some of the most watchable games of the tournament.
- Adding to the intrigue, it was the first time with a four game fixture list that each match had at least one player picked.
- Spain/Slovakia and Sweden/Poland both had five goals between the two teams but took vastly different roads to get there.
- Slovakia looked prepared to battle toe to toe with Spain raring to counter once they wrangled possession away. Martin Dubravka even saved an Alvaro Morata penalty, much to Scott's dismay. But after Dubravka comically punched a ricochet off the post into his own net, the flood gates opened and it ended 5-0.
- Sweden got ahead quickly on Poland and tried their damnedest to make that one goal stick. Robert Lewandowski was stifled for about an hour until his class shined through with a brace to net Trevor and Andrew top score of the day but to draw Poland level. All his hard work came undone in extra time though as Sweden got their winner to win the group.
- The late games were even more intriguing as all four teams knew exactly what they had to do to advance and who they would play in the Round of 16 if they were able to do so.
- Portugal got two Ronaldo (Matt/Mike) penalties, one in each half, to share the spoils with France in a match that both teams just continually ran at one another like Bart and Lisa Simpson accepting no responsibility for one hitting the other.
- Germany/Hungary was the more appealing for neutral viewers as Hungary threatened to tip over the apple cart by leading the vast majority of their match with the 2014 World Champions. Alas, Leon Goretzka's late equalizer as a subsitute, and not the sub selected by Greg, Timo Werner, gave Germany a draw and advancement.
