- Scoring for the UEFA Champions League Pick One Challenge will be done via match ratings from SOFASCORE. It isn't an app you particularly need to download but if you are a fan of the footy even outside of the parameters of this challenge it would be super helpful for you to have as it is quite comprehensive for the sport.
- Building off information gathered from the Euros Pick One Challenge, the necessary selections will come from EVERY MATCH on a particular matchday not just one per day. This allows for a maximization of player selection and allows for more of a free-flowing strategy from matchday to matchday.
- There will be a spreadsheet where you can see who everybody has taken from each club, a day-by-day scoresheet with the most up-to-date scores, individual scoresheets so you can see every player you personally have picked in one sheet, a record book to see the best (and worst) of different individual categories throughout the year, and possibly more. These will be all shared with all participants through Google Docs.
- The entry fee is as always $10 which should be sent to me before the end of the first set of matchdays via your payment method of choice. I have Venmo, PayPal, and hands that can have physical cash placed into them. Top score gets all unless we get more than ten participants in which in that case second place will get their money back.
The Pick One Challenge is always trying to evolve and make itself the best form that it can be for everybody involved. That is why for this game we've implemented these tools to help keep the game as balanced as it possibly can.
- The BREAK GLASS LIST is a mechanism that nobody has used across any of these games to date, but I'm still keeping it in just in case this is the time. You can send me a list of players, however long or short you desire, that in case of emergency, or just plain forgetfulness, will be your pick for the day. We all have lives and flake out on something as minute as the Pick One and having that safety net could be incredibly beneficial.
- LAST MAN IN has been a stalwart across several of the V2 Pick One Challenges. For the UCL Challenge, if you haven't made a pick for any particular match on a given matchday, you will be given the final substitute who is given a match rating by Sofascore for that match. If that player has already been taken by you, you will be given the second to last substitute from that match regardless of club. Only after that will you be given a zero.
- With the relative success of the Triple Double Down in the NBA Pick One, I thought it would be a bit spicy to insert a once-a-round rubber-banding mechanism to the UEFA Champions League Pick One Challenge. That is where the GOLDEN GOAL comes in. Once per round you can pick a player and if they score more than one goal you get an instant 10.0 rating for that match regardless of what their rating is via Sofascore. Those who have played the football challenges to date know how much of a swing that could be.
- Finally, FINANCIAL RELEGATION makes its way to the UEFA Pick One Challenge. People bowing out early has been an unfortunate trend in these games so this tool is here to try its damnedest to keep it lively for the cellar dwellers. If you come in last place, you pay double. Easy as that.
As always, get your picks into me via text, social media DM, phone call, or Hogwarts owl. I am not going to make a submission form for this game unless people really want it as all use of the NFL one died by mid-season and the NBA one didn't make it past Opening Night.
