- Scoring for the NBA Pick One is the sum of POINTS + REBOUNDS + ASSISTS (PRA) for a given player on a given day. Rookie point values will be DOUBLED.
- The game runs through Opening Night through the last game of the NBA Finals and each player can only be selected once for the entirety of the Challenge.
- There will be a spreadsheet where you can see who everybody has taken from each club, a day-by-day scoresheet with the most up-to-date scores, individual scoresheets so you can see every player you personally have picked in one sheet, a record book to see the best (and worst) of different individual categories throughout the year, and possibly more. These will be all shared with all participants through Google Docs.
- The entry fee is $10 payable within the first week of the NBA season please. Top score gets all unless we surpass ten participants in which at that point second place will get their money back.
Being a very a la carte game, I try to make the rules fit best each season and provide the best competitve landscape. With that being said, let's see what is new (and returning) to the NBA Pick One in 2022-23
- With plenty of uses of the LAST MAN IN now on record, we've all had a chance to see how it can be good and bad. It gives you that lifeline on a forgetful day but it also can ransack your Western Conference selection pool within a month if you are not careful. With that being said, the LMI is getting a little tweak for the upcoming season in that the provision will now go four players deep and bounce between the final two games of the evening. It now gives you four potential bites of the apple instead of two and it being spread over two games gives the potential of four different teams which means that the poor Kings will see some respite.
- Replacing the Triple Double Down for 2022-23 is the 5X5. A player no longer has to worry about calling their shot on a given day in a given month. Simply put, if your selection for the day gets five steals or five blocks (or more) those totals will be added to your score for the day. This will give more defensive-minded players a bit more value and not have the burden be on the selector to decide whether or not they want to use a specific chip on a specific player on a specific day.
- FINANCIAL RELEGATION is back. We all know the NBA season is a bit of a slog and it will be just a bit more so with it going back to an 82 game schedule. But to keep these interesting at both ends of the table, the person who finishes in last place will have to PAY TWICE. Since we don't have a second division in the Pick One Challenge, I feel this is a good way to keep everyone interested throughout and force the strategy of picks to remain even if the top spot may be out of reach.
