I haven't had more than one loss a day so far in my NBA picks so needless to say I am feeling incredibly overconfident. Me and overconfidence never intersect and the rare times we do it is usually followed by a bout of immense failure. Therefore, use tonight's picks for yourself at your own peril. The Post gave me a gift with the Bulls as underdogs yesterday as well as the Lakers and Jazz facing single digit spreads. I think my three picks today are just as "safe" but an 0-3 humbling for yours truly isn't an entirely unfeasible proposition.
All picks made on the NY Post Line. Home team in all CAPS.
Washington -5 ORLANDO
The Wiz were humbled by the new look Heat last night but they are still a class above the Magic. Orlando was bulldozed by the Pelicans on Opening Night. If Washington is going to win the Southeast like I predicted, they need to take care of business against cannon fodder like the Magic, especially early on. I think they do so in a high scoring affair and cover the five points.
Detroit +4 MINNESOTA
The Timberwolves hung tough in their opener against Memphis but their youth showed through in the clutch as they were downed. The Pistons had no such excuse in an ugly loss to the Nuggets. Still, I think Stan Van Gundy is too good of a coach to let his team put up two stinkers in a row. That is why I am taking the points with Deeeeeeeeeeeeetroiiiiiitttttttttt Baskkkkkkkkkkkkkkeeeeeetttttttballllllll.
DALLAS -9.5 Utah
If their performance against the defending champions was any indication, the Mavericks are going to be one hell of a team in 2014. They play their home opener against Utah tonight. The Jazz proved they could get scoring from more than just Gordon Hayward against Houston, but continued to jack up threes despite hitting just 3 of 18 tries. If they implore the same strategy against Dallas, they will face similar consequences.
