- The holiday hangover continued in the Challenge as five of the six picks of the day came from the final game on the schedule.
- Our lone outlier was Colin who went with Jimmy Butler against the Kings. While the All-Star has been in decent form since his return from injury, his 32 PRA couldn't help the Heat best Sacramento on the evening.
- Most of the picks that were from Minnesota/Los Angeles had Last Man In undertones with the exception being Trevor's pick of Malik Beasley. Consistent Bench Bargain Beasley saw himself thrust into the starting five with Minnesota's IL list growing, but he did not fill up the stat sheet too diversely finishing with 16 points and 17 PRA.
- Two participants, Lou and Matt, were second step LMI'ers who were pleasantly surprised to see Naz Reid, Minnesota's top performer, sitting there for them. The big man double-doubled his way to 36 PRA, the second-best total of the day.
- That sum fell 2 PRA short of the day's top scorer, LeBron James. Ryan was assigned The King via the Last Man In while Al attempted to use his January Triple Double Down on the ageless wonder. While Al's efforts fell considerably short, 38 PRA was enough for that aforementioned top score and a Lakers victory.
- Optimally, it was a triple-double from a rookie that did the deed for the evening as Josh Giddey became the youngest player ever to record one on his way to a rookie-boosted 88 PRA against the Mavericks. For Bench Bargains, Terrence Ross helped the Magic get to OT with Boston on the back of his 38 PRA while Quentin Grimes got a less-necessary rookie-boosted 32 PRA as the Knicks were thwarted by Toronto.
