If there is anything I lack in these streak games, it is consistency. I cannot seem to do consistently well in both games concurrently. Yesterday was another prime example of my conundrum. It was also the first of more than likely many times I wasn't able to get a pick in on Streak for the Cash and was forced to make a replacement selection (Miami Heat over Philadelphia instead of Barcelona over PSG). Thankfully that didn't go horribly wrong. As for Beat the Streak, let's dive in shall we?
Mike Trout did what Mike Trout does yesterday. He went 3-for-4 against Texas with a walk, RBI, and stolen base for good measure. Eric Hosmer, not so much. The Royals first baseman couldn't muster a single solitary hit against the putrid Twins pitching and Kansas City lost for the first time in 2015. He was also part of a gloriously stinky 2-for-21 attack in my New York Probation League that saw me drop two places in the standings. You don't care about that though, who am I picking today? I am going to shy away from the double down today yet recycle a previous pick with Miami's Dee Gordon. He's had a stellar start to his Marlins career and will take on Dillon Gee and the Mets. Gee is the most hittable of the five New York starters so I am hoping Flash gets his early.
Since I am always the glutton punishment, I am returning to picking baseball today. Better yet, I am taking a team that screwed me over in the other streak game not 24 hours ago: the Kansas City Royals. As you can see from the graphic, ESPN hasn't quite come to terms with the fact that Kansas City is no longer undefeated. Nevertheless, I don't expect the defending American League pennant winners to lose two in a row to an anemic offense like Minnesota's. For my second selection, I am going with the Anaheim Ducks. The small percentage of you that used to read my picks columns will know how well the Ducks have treated me over time. I think Charlie Conway's favorite team drew a favorable matchup in Winnipeg. They'll TCOB at home in Game One. If all goes well, I'll be at a nice sparkly W4 come the morning with the chance at a red star at my fingertips. HAPPY STREAKING EVERYBODY!!
