By the simple fact that I am writing this article today, you should know that I was unsuccessful in my attempt to Beat the Streak in a day. Although I didn't get 57 correct selections, I had my best showing with 41 base knockers. Tee hee base knockers. That sounds like a baseball themed porno flick. Now that I have that out of my system, let us move on to today's choices. My first pick is Yasiel Puig of the Los Angeles Dodgers. During yesterday's contest, the Dodgers and Cubs players were ruled out because they had a day game. Since I couldn't choose Puig or any other Dodger yesterday (and whaddaya know every Dodgers starter got a hit), I am going with the Cuban against Felix Doubront and the Cubs today. I would delve further into how much Felix Doubront has stunk this year but it reopens the wound that I picked him as an All-Star before the season. My second pick is Justin Morneau of the Colorado Rockies. The 2006 American League MVP is neck and neck with the current leader, Pittsburgh's Josh Harrison, for the NL Batting Crown. Harrison doesn't have a necessarily terrible matchup today against Milwaukee's Matt Garza but Morneau has an even better one against Arizona's Trevor Cahill. The first baseman is 5-for-8 lifetime against Cahill with a home run. I expect to see Morneau on top of the NL Batting Average food chain come the dawn. As per always, I leave you with the people from yesterday's contest who can go fuck themselves...yet not too hard because I need several of you to win money in fantasy leagues.
- Matt Carpenter, Cardinals
- Adam Jones, Orioles
- Todd Frazier, Reds
- Mike Trout, Angels
- Kole Calhoun, Angels
- Carlos Gomez, Brewers
- Josh Donaldson, Athletics
- Gregory Polanco, Pirates
- Hunter Pence, Giants
- Jose Bautista, Blue Jays
- Anthony Rendon, Nationals
- Albert Pujols, Angels
- Buster Posey, Giants
- Freddie Freeman, Braves
- Aramis Ramirez, Brewers
- Gerardo Parra, Brewers
That is what I get for trusting a rival. Tim Hudson and the Giants were embarrassed by the Padres last night 5-0. What did I learn from this? Seemingly nothing as I attempt to dig myself out of an L1 hole with another rival team, Premier League power Arsenal. To even it out I selected Liverpool, probably jinxing them in the process, at 12:30. I have made my remainder of my picks for the day a Full Soccer House. We'll say that the Gunners and Reds are the Olsen Twins leaving several other big roles to fill. Danny Tanner will be played by Juventus. They are known to some as the Old Lady and for the majority of his screen time on Full House, Tanner was basically an old lady in a middle aged man's body. Juve gets a road win at AC Milan coming off a 2-0 mid week victory over Swedish champions Malmo in the UCL. I am casting the Portland Timbers as Joey Gladstone. The Timbers are that team that are fun to watch but you don't really notice when they aren't there. I say that because even though they are the third highest scoring team in MLS, their porous defense (third most goals allowed) has them outside of the playoff picture in the West. The team they are playing today, Vancouver, is the team right above them. It will be a game filled with goals for both sides but at home I think Portland can snag a W. My final pick of the day is of course, the Uncle Jesse Seattle Sounders. The leading team in MLS is on par with the leading man of the Rippers. I just don't think Clint Dempsey or DeAndre Yedlin will have as big of a problem with someone touching their hair as Mr. Katsopolis did. HAPPY STREAKING EVERYBODY!!
