Knock, knock. Who's there? Double digits. Double digits who? Double digits motherfucker!!!! I know the joke makes no sense. Do you want to know what else makes no sense? I've finally made it to double digits in MLB's Beat the Streak! I stand (actually sit) before you in stunned disbelief of the fortune that has befallen me. Now I just have to do this 47 more times. No sweat. Thank you to Robinson Cano and Todd Frazier but for this lovely Thursday I am going with a new duo. I've used Jose Altuve recently (SIP #4) but it has been some time since I used Jacoby Ellsbury. Altuve, the diminutive Astro who leads the majors in batting average, dropped an 0-for-4 on me last time. In his defense, Brandon McCarthy of the Yankees did throw a four hit shutout. I don't think one will expect a similar performance from Rangers' starter Nick Tepesch. The right hander hasn't even completed a game in his two year career, never mind a shutout. Altuve should get back in my good graces today. As for Jacoby Ellsbury, his selection is quite the shot in the dark. I haven't seen the Yankees play in over two weeks. However, they did just beat David Price's brains in last night. This collective awakening provides me with a reason to use the 153 million dollar man. Hell, he's facing a guy named Kyle Lobstein. Is the next fill-in for the Tigers Donny Grooveberg? Fuck. I of course want to keep progressing forward, but now that I am at ten I have earned my mulligan (finally). The Mulligan allows a user to absorb one single zero burger and expunge it from your record. You can only use it when your streak is between 10 and 15. Hopefully I either have to use it in the next two days or not at all. Keep streaking people! Dimaggio's going down!
As August winds to a close, I trudge through another day of Streak for the Cash. I try to have enthusiasm in all my fantasy sport endeavors. I am that asshole in last place in your fantasy football league that is still putting in waiver claims each week. Streak for the Cash is a whole different animal. It is so demoralizing to lose a streak late in the month and know full well that there isn't even a small consolation you can get from late wins. When Manchester United dropped two points to Sunderland, I knew I was effectively finished from conquering the top of the leaderboard. When Celtic lost at home to Maribor, I knew my realistic chances at a W10 and a blue star were dashed. At this stage of the game, you are just rooting for the king's empire to be toppled. The crown currently sits on the head of this guy:
I can't catch him but there are at least two people that can! Don't let him sit on the W25 folks. Force him to make another pick. I just hope that pick is a WNBA one.
