Leave it to me to pick the guy who goes hitless in a 16-hit attack. That is exactly what I did last night with Houston's Carlos Correa, a move that clouded an otherwise sunny day here on Streaking In Public. It's time to get back up on the horse this evening with a fresh batch of baseball picks to return to the winning side of things.
I'll be doubling down on Beat the Streak with two road boppers. Toronto's Josh Donaldson, fresh off being the leading All-Star vote getter, travels to U.S. Cellular Field to take on Jose Quintana and the White Sox. Detroit's J.D. Martinez has a late game with the Seattle Mariners and Taijuan Walker. Both men have little or no track records with their opposition, but I am betting on their recent record rather than matchup history.
Donaldson has two hits in six career at-bats against Quintana, both singles. Martinez, like most of the Tigers outside of Anthony Gose, has never faced Walker before. Donaldson is killing the White Sox this year though, hitting .643 (9-for-14) with five home runs and a double. Martinez is on fire in the last seven days raking .483 (14-for-29) with five home runs of his own and 12 RBI.
I am still taking the tortoise approach to Streak for the Cash. My one pick for today is Yovani Gallardo and the Texas Rangers as they host Robbie Ray and the Arizona Diamondbacks. Gallardo got the snub from his constituents in All-Star voting, but he is looking to rebound from his last start against the Snakes. That was a 8-5 loss in April in which the Mexican ace was rocked for 5 runs (3 earned) in 5 innings. Here's to that turnaround and a W4 heading to hump day. HAPPY STREAKING EVERYBODY!!!!!
