Welcome to my Sweet Sixteen party! Though I am still super heated that daddy got me the red Lamborghini instead of the turquoise one (what a dipshit!), I am going to talk about how awesome I am! That's how that show goes right? Is it even still on the air? I haven't watched MTV in probably five years, minimum. I do have a 16 streak in MLB's Beat the Streak though! OK, settle down Utley, you're using too many exclamation points. It is just hard to corral my emotions since I am just two away from my longest streak ever. Now, I'm nervous...great. Yesterday, Jose Altuve left no doubts in his worthiness with a 4-for-5 effort against Texas. Yasiel Puig didn't make me wait long either, as he got his one hit leading off the game against Eric Stults and San Diego. I said I'd thank their mothers today if they came through. I am thanking them right now but since I feel kind of creepy this will be the last time. Sorry to Mrs. Cano and Mrs. Posey. Yes, my two picks today are Robinson Cano and Buster Posey. Cano, the crown jewel of free agency this offseason has shown up on two prior Streaking In Publics (#'s 1 & 10). The first time, not so good. The second time, I got to double digits. I'll take my mixed results with Mr. Cano as he takes on Oakland and Jason Hammel. Hammel was one of the better pitchers in the National League for the Cubs early on. His trade to Oakland and the American League has not reaped many rewards. His ERA in Oakland is nearly double what it was in Chicago (2.98 to 5.77) and his WHIP is 1.64. Cano is also 8-for-17 lifetime against Hammel so I am hoping Cano's success and Hammel's decline continue today. My other selection, Buster Posey, has only moderately less going for him statistically speaking. He is 2-for-8 lifetime against Colorado left hander Franklin Morales with both those hits being singles, BUT, the 2012 NL MVP is coming of a 5-for-5 performance (in just six innings) against Milwaukee. I think the former Red Sox southpaw is in for a rough day and tomorrow my Streak is going to be able to buy cigarettes and nudey mags.
It is a new month which means a clean slate on Streak for the Cash. I of course must now christen the new month by taking the first pick available to me. Thankfully, it seems to be a pretty straightforward one for September. There is no Tour de France. No one racer versus the field in Formula One pick at 5:30 in the morning pick is available. I am going with the supremely reliable Bryan brothers in US Open Men's Doubles. Why? They are the only men's doubles team I know. That is only the case because they win constantly. So Bob and Mike make me and America proud against two...other Americans. Their names don't sound American though so whoop 'em good. 'Murica. Hopefully that match goes swiftly because my next pick is a staple of Labor Day. It probably won't be a beach day today but there will be an abundance of day baseball to choose from and watch. My pick will be the day game from the West Coast: Tyson Ross and the Padres over Trevor Cahill and the Diamondbacks. If I am 2-0...no let me stop there. Positivity, c'mon. WHEN I'M 2-0, I am going to shut it down for today but the race to the stash begins again! Good luck and happy streaking everybody!
