I am not off to the greatest of starts in my return to making daily picks. My first NFL Weekend was a complete disaster and after yesterday I am under .500 with my NHL advice. I am still trying to get the lay of the land in the National Hockey League and that provided some big losses for me. I picked the New York Hockey Rangers laying 1.5 goals against their in-state mates, the Islanders, and were promptly decimated 6-3. Several games going to overtime (and shootout) did me in and I was only 1-2 on the money line. There are only three games to pick from today so I hope that I can at least get myself back to even.
All picks are made with composite puck lines from ESPN.com. Games without puck lines are done with NY Post Money Lines. Home team in all CAPS.
DETROIT +1.5 Boston
The Red Wings have already beaten the Bruins at home so them getting a goal and a half is a no-brainer in my eyes. Tuuka Rask is 0-3 lifetime at the Joe Louis Arena with a GAA of nearly 4.00. I don't expect this game to be filled with goals but in the end Detroit will cover.
CHICAGO -1.5 Calgary
The Flames were able to eke out a shootout win at Nashville yesterday but the test gets much harder in their second back-to-back of this young season. The Blackhawks may be looking up at the Predators in the standings but they are the better team that Calgary will face in this two step. The 2013 Stanley Cup Champions are well rested as their last game was four days ago. They should cover the 1.5 goals and then some against a tired team.
ARIZONA +150 Edmonton
The only game on the docket without a ready available puck line is also the game I picked on Streaking In Public today. Check out that article for my reasoning for taking the former Phoenix Coyotes and enjoy the latest installment of Rocktober.
