Yesterday was a nice 2-0 day with neither result in real jeopardy for me at any point. I'd say that is as good a way to pick yourself up after an all-sport zero burger the day before. My two picks came in but the games went in vastly different directions. Toronto jumped all over Boston in the second period of their Rivalry Wednesday contest with four goals. They didn't let up or look back and cruised to a 6-1 victory and getting the over all by themselves. I knew this game had some goals in it, but I would be lying if I said I saw this lopsided of a game coming. The later game was my spread pick as I had the Kings against the Ducks to complete the Rivalry Wednesday doubleheader. The defending champs put up two first period goals on the Ducks and were leading 3-2 to after two. After Anaheim tied it up to start the third, LA rebounded and looked to have the game sewn up. That was not the case as they conceded two goals in five minutes including one with about 90 seconds left in regulation and would go on to lose in the shootout. With the way they were collapsing in the last five minutes, I was thankful it got to OT. It secured a win for me and a disappointing point for the Stanley Cup holders.
Today I will be picking four games, two spread and two over/under. Boston and Los Angeles both factor into my picks on the second night of back to backs. The Bruins head to Montreal for a REAL rivalry game with the Habs while the Kings head home to welcome the Stars to Staples Center. I try my hand with the Sabres again but in a stunning turn of events I am actually picking them...to cover a goal and a half. Minnesota isn't a bad team but they've lost four in a row and I don't think they'll snap out of that funk entirely tonight. The other game features the New York Rangers, who are fresh off creaming the Penguins, taking on the Colorado Avalanche. If this game doesn't hit the over I'll be shocked. The New York Hockey Rangers have been scoring in droves while Colorado's claim to "fame" this season thus far has been giving up a zamboni-load of goals. On to the picks!
