By Trevor Utley Beyond Wrestling will return to Fete Music in Providence on Sunday, September 28th for Makin' Moves. That isn't the show I want to talk about today. That event is Beerly Legal. A clever punny take on ECW's first ever PPV Barely Legal, Beerly Legal is a craft beer and wrestling extravaganza coming to our fair state's capital. The What Cheer Tavern in Providence will be the gracious hosts for the card. The price of the ticket is not yet known but what is known that there is only 100 of them available. They go on sale next Friday and I hope I am lucky enough to secure one. If I am able to do so, I hope to see as many of you there as possible. In the meantime, make sure to follow Beyond Wrestling on both Twitter @beyondwrestling, on Facebook, and at lookmanofans.com for more information. Give the @whatcheertavern a follow and a like too for hosting what will surely be a raucous time. And as always, keep bleedingyourcolors.weebly.com in your queue and follow us on Twitter @B3WHYC3 and on Facebook. If you actually listened to the podcast (which you can here if you didn't) you wouldn't have heard a second on the company. That is what we like to call "getting sidetracked." It seems our discussions about the title pedigrees of the Million Dollar Man and Mr. Perfect took precedent. Don't take this omission as a knock on the company. To the contrary, Beyond Wrestling put on one of the best experiences, never mind wrestling shows, I've ever been a part of. It is hard to distinguish oneself on the independent wrestling scene but I feel that this organization does just that. And it is hard to fathom but I almost didn't get in. The promoters and wrestlers involved with Americanrana flooded their Twitter feeds with a hashtag #SellOutFete in an attempt to sell out the show's venue, Fete Music Hall in Providence, RI. Well, they were successful in their mission and I was left out in the rain hoping that there would be space left once all the ticketholders were allowed into the building. I lucked out and got in just as the opening match was coming to a conclusion. From what I could gather from fellow fans the opener, a tag team battle royal, was a fitting start to a stacked card. They weren't wrong. The lineup covered the full spectrum of what a wrestling fan could ask for. I'll go through it without spoiling the results for you. Comedy wrestling your thing? Sex & Candy (Sugar Dunkerton & Pinkie Sanchez) vs. Fear and Loathing in New England (Aaron Epic & Dave Cole) would have made your evening. Tag team turmoil? Team TREMENDOUS (Dan Barry and Bill Carr) vs. Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent?) and The Juicy Product (JT Dunn & David Starr) vs. The Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson) were spectacles of the artform, even if the nearside top rope caused both matches a bit of stress. Get well Trent. Fans of the more technical side got a European Rounds Match from Tomasso Ciampa and Drew Gulak as well as an intergender match between Silver Ant (in full USAnt garb) and Kimber Lee. There were bloody battles between Nicholas Kaye and Anthony Stone (Loser Must Retire) as well as Eric Corvis and Jimmy Jacobs (First Blood). Brian Myers (known to most as WWE's Curt Hawkins) put on a hell of a show with one of his trainees, Ryan Rush. There was even a surprise appearance by TNA World Tag Champion Eddie Edwards as he and Biff Busick tore the house down. The main event was between ROH World Champion, "Unbreakable" Michael Elgin, and the man with my new favorite nickname in wrestling, "Dirty Daddy" Chris Dickinson. The match itself didn't disappoint with chops and kicks that made my chest bleed. Tables came into play and in the end, Elgin was victorious. But in reality, the main event wasn't the main event at all. The main event was the whole event. It was the fact that there were no barricades and fans could stand nearly on top of the ring. It was Elgin in the parking lot asking fans what he should order from Championship Melt. It was Elgin's merch table featuring a Chris Benoit DVD (which he sold) and a Roddy Piper book. It was being able to get drinks at the bar with a guy who just finished wrestling. It was Oleg the Usurper selling onions and challenging scrawny men to tests of strength. It was the constant "Chicks!" chants. The crowd was great and I felt privileged to be a part of it. The product and the people got me hooked. The next event will be the Battle of New England, or BONE, on August 31st once again at Fete in Providence. I'm going to be sure to get my tickets beforehand this time and can't wait for this show and beyond from Beyond. I hope to see as many of you there as possible. You won't regret it. Trevor Utley will be at the Battle of New England on August 31st. Will you?

For the past few years, I wanted to get into CHIKARA PRO, an independent promotion out of Philadelphia, but I could never figure out when is a good time to jump right in since they are a very storyline oriented company, a trait I thought I would enjoy a lot. Sure, I heard things can be very wacky but I could look past that. Then the company was "shut down" in 2013. Rumors swirled throughout 2013 that the company would be coming back eventually. I went to one of the "Wrestling Is..." shows (Wrestling is Art to be exact) during their sabbatical when they were in Rhode Island and I enjoyed it a lot. But I wanted the real thing. This led me to the Ashes of CHIKARA. A semi-faux documentary, The Ashes of CHIKARA, was made before the CHIKARA return show and I figured it would be a good starting point to get me familiar with the characters and certain angles. There were a few wrestlers I already knew from their time in other promotions so I was able to recognize them off the bat. I was disappointed though that there was little to no explanation as to who anyone else was. As a person who had no idea what was going on this is what I gathered:
The story ends at National Pro Wrestling Day during the final match, a crew comes in to stop it and it seemed like they were going to stop the show and end it like CHIKARA and all the various Wrestling Is promotions. This crew was led by Jimmy Jacobs and they looked formidable but finally the CHIKARA crew came in to defend it and 3.0 and Peck even came in with a DELOREAN!! The evil guys ended up retreating and that was it...CHIKARA WAS BACK! Even with all the interweaving storytelling, I was still kind of lost after watching "The Ashes". I thought it was an interesting film but I didn't particularly learn anything from it. Luckily, I ended up going to the CHIKARA website to find out more information and that is when I found a BEGINNER'S GUIDE PDF. This 20+ page document, a must have for any other fans like me, explained the major players in CHIKARA and let me know who each person was and who their friends and enemies were. After reading it, I am both informed and hooked. I think I am ready for you CHIKARA. Bring on "YOU ONLY LIVE TWICE" and beyond! Andrew Sanford can be found on da Twitter @TheSanford1.
